Our History
In 1996 a group of committed families in the Roanoke Valley earnestly sought to develop a new school: a school of academic excellence committed to a classical curriculum, which also incorporated a Christian, biblical worldview, within the context of a non-denominational and independent setting. In 1997 the school became a reality, opening its doors to forty-seven students in grades six through eleven, leasing space from Virginia Heights Baptist Church. The following year, the school saw its first graduating class and expansion to sixty students under the leadership of headmaster Chuck Evans.
With steady growth, and ninety-six students, the board and administration decided to move the campus in the summer of 2003 to Cave Spring Baptist Church in southwest Roanoke County. This new location provided larger classrooms, a gymnasium, cafeteria, and room to add a grammar school. Sam Cox came on board as Head of School in 2001, and he, along with the board of directors, made the decision to add the K-5 grammar school and hired Diane Kelly to direct this school division. In the fall of 2004 the grammar school opened with seventy-nine students, along with 108 in the middle and upper divisions, bringing enrollment to a record 187. The staff now numbers forty-three, including both full and part-time.
In 2005, we broke ground on twenty-four beautiful acres along Buck Mountain Road and the Blue Ridge Parkway . August 2007 saw us open the doors to our new state-of-the-art facility, and an enrollment of 286 students.
In addition to increasing enrollment and staffing, programs continue to be refined and expanded. The Fine Arts remain a hallmark of the school, the athletic programs are growing and improving, additional electives have been added to the curriculum, and our graduates have begun making a name for themselves and for God's Kingdom outside our halls. With eight graduating classes, we've had a 100% college acceptance rate, with students now attending colleges and universities all across this country and Europe. We have seen four consecutive graduating classes in the double digits, with mean SAT scores in the 1300 range over those years. In addition to their academic successes, Faith Christian School's graduates are making a mark on their respective college campuses as they spread God's Word as mature, godly leaders.
