Believing God to be the Creator and Sustainer of life, our desire is to teach the creative arts and develop within each student the skill, knowledge and understanding of the arts for the praise and glory of God. We encourage standards of excellence, service to God and man, and the search for truth, goodness and beauty within the arts. Knowing God has uniquely gifted each of our students, Faith Christian School's Fine Arts teachers give students creative experiences and opportunities to grow, use, and appreciate their gifts in choral music, band, drama and art. In addition to various performances throughout the year, a yearly tradition, the Spring Festival of the Arts showcases all of our arts programs with an art show and a dramatic performance intertwined with vocal and instrumental music.
Visual Arts Art students at Faith Christian School explore God's order and beauty found in the elements and principles of design. They are challenged with design projects and thereby learn that art is a problem solving activity. In addition to this, each grade is exposed to art history and uses ideas from the classical masterpieces of art as springboards to creativity. Students begin with the basics of art and build on them in areas of drawing, painting, mixed media, sculpture and ceramics. Most importantly of all, students learn that whatever they do should glorify God.
Choral Music Choral Arts meets 2 periods a week, and includes singing traditional sacred and secular choral arrangements in different languages (accompanied and a capella), small ensemble and solo opportunities, and selections from the genre of Broadway and Disney productions. Choral Arts focuses on the development of musicianship skills, knowledge of music theory, vocabulary, sight singing ability, vocal techniques, achieving a good choral tone, and performance poise, all the while making the enjoyment of singing a priority.
Strings Strings class is offered as a zero period three days per week on M/W/F. Though the class is rooted in chamber music performance and string technique, important universal aspects of music such as theory, composition, and history are explored to build a solid foundation of musical understanding for each student. The class also aims to discover connections with other disciplines through collaboration and encourage students to use their talents outside of Faith Christian to enrich their churches and communities.
Drama Our focus in drama is not only to develop skills in voice, movement, and characterization on stage, but chiefly to reflect God in our creativity and to glorify Him in our work ethic. We strive for excellence, seek to assume personal responsibility, and endeavor to put the good of the Acting Company ahead of individual gratification.
