Is the school sponsored by a church? Faith Christian School is an independent, nondenominational school supporting families in over 25 churches in the Roanoke Valley. We operate the school with funds from tuition and donations.
What is the school’s policy regarding class size? The class size for K is 18; 1-5 is 18-20, with assistants available if numbers dictate. The class size for grades 6-12 is no more than 20 students unless approved by the Board of Directors.
Are teachers required to be certified with the State of Virginia? What are the requirements for teachers? Private schools in Virginia are not required to have certified teachers; however, our school is well equipped with fine teachers who have advanced degrees as well as credentials for certification. All teachers are screened with a criminal background check.
What standardized test does Faith Christian School administer? We administer the ERB to students in grades 1-8. The ERB is a reasoning/achievement test that provides a rigorous assessment of student achievement in reading, listening, vocabulary, writing, and mathematics.
Is the school accredited with any organization? Yes, the school is accredited with Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). We also hold memberships in several school organizations.
What are the operating hours of the school? The Lower school (Grades K-5) begins at 8:00. Half-day Kindergarten dismisses at 12:30. Full day Kindergarten through Grade 5 dismisses at 2:45. Middle and Upper school (Grades 6-12) begins at 8:10 and dismisses at 3:05.
What is the school’s policy regarding a dress code or uniform? Faith Christian requires students to wear a designated dress code. The clothing is comfortable, casual, and easy to launder. Parents are informed of acceptable clothing before school begins.
Does the school offer hot lunches? We offer meals purchased from local vendors.
Does the school need funds over and above the tuition receipts? Tuition does not cover the cost of a student’s education. The Annual Fund and Project Faith are the fundraisers which help to offset the cost. Parents are encouraged to volunteer their time during the year and make contributions when possible.
Is tuition assistance available? Families may apply for tuition assistance after receiving an enrollment contract. Is there a tuition break for multiple children? We do not offer a discount for more than one child. We encourage parents to apply for tuition assistance.
How can I visit the school? Visitors are welcome throughout the year. Students are encouraged to come for a day to sit in on classes. If you are interested in a visit, please call the Director of Enrollment at 540-769-5200 x148.
