Clubs and Services
Hi Y Club
Faith Christian School initiated a Hi Y Club in May, 2002. This club, which is open to all 9th through 12th graders, is primarily a service organization, with an emphasis on Virginia government. As well as service projects and club “fun” times, students will have the opportunity to attend the annual statewide Model General Assembly, held in Richmond in the spring. The Model General Assembly is an annual reenactment of Virginia’s legislative process sponsored by the Virginia YMCA. Each year it provides over six hundred Virginia high school students a closer look at the inner workings of state government. The Hi Y Club also sponsors the Model Judiciary Program which is an opportunity for 9th-12th graders to argue a real court case before a jury and a real judge.
Tertulia
The Tertulia is an organization made up of students who are studying or have studied Spanish. Its purpose is to expand student’s understanding of Spanish and Latin American culture as well as give opportunity for extended conversing in Spanish. In addition to in-school meetings, the Tertulia sponsors several events outside of school, normally including an annual immersion experience in the spring.
Ministerium Society
The Ministerium Society is a student-led organization for grades 6 – 12 which seeks to show the light of Christ through practical acts of service and mercy in accord with Jesus’ teaching in the Sermon on the Mount: “Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).
Ministerium meets weekly to organize service projects for both the school community and the Roanoke community at large. This society allows students to participate in school-wide drives for materials needed by charities, and also gets students involved with non-profit organizations such as Samaritan’s Purse, the Blue Ridge Women’s Center, the Rescue Mission, and local nursing homes.
Project Faith
Project Faith is Faith Christian School’s one school-wide fundraiser each year. It is a student-led service project that focuses on raising money for FCS, and providing a valuable service to the local community. More on Project Faith
Student Government Association
The Student Government Association (SGA) is made up of sixth through twelfth grade students elected by their classmates. The SGA is dedicated to the development of character and leadership within Faith Christian School. These students strive to nurture the social and spiritual lives of the FCS community by organizing various service projects and social events throughout the school year.
